Joseph Abbott, 87, a longtime resident of Clifton Heights who later made his home in Secane, PA, passed away peacefully at Bryn Mawr Hospital on April 13, 2026, surrounded by the love of his family.
Born in Philadelphia and raised in the Grays Ferry section of South Philadelphia, Joe proudly served his country as a U.S. Army veteran. He went on to build a successful career as an electrician at Keough Electric, retiring in 2000.
Throughout his life, Joe devoted himself to his family and community. He spent many meaningful hours with his children as a Boy Scout Master, a baseball coach for Westbrook Park, and as part of the YMCA’s Indian Princesses program. Joe had a passion for traveling to North Carolina, embarking on cruises, and enjoying the Jersey Shore. He loved fishing and was an enthusiastic supporter of the Phillies, Eagles, and Notre Dame. Above all, Joe treasured time spent with his loved ones—whether gathered around the table, celebrating milestones, or simply enjoying each other’s company. His warmth, generosity, and laughter made every moment memorable.
Joe was predeceased by his beloved wife, Ann T. Abbott (nee Sangmeister); his parents, Joseph and Anna Abbott (nee Kochersperger); and his siblings, Michael Abbott, Nancy Murtha, and James Abbott. He is survived by his children: Joseph Abbott, Jr., Theresa Dugan (Patrick), and Paul Abbott (Tammy); his cherished grandchildren: Katie, Jessica, Joseph, and Megan; and beloved great-grandsons: Joey, Wes, Josiah, and Declan. Joe is also survived by his sister, Rosemary Killion, and many nieces and nephews who will continue to remember his kindness and joyful spirit.
Joe leaves behind a legacy of love, laughter, and generosity. He will be remembered not only as a devoted husband, father, pop pop, brother, and friend, but also for the countless lives he touched with his caring nature and vibrant spirit.
Joe’s Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Tuesday, April 21, 2026, at 11:00 AM at Saint Eugene Church, 200 S. Oak Avenue, Primos, PA. Family and friends are invited to the Visitation from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM at the church. Interment will follow at Nativity BVM Calvary Cemetery in Media, PA.
