Lynda Sue Phillips Munson Wonderly

Lynda Sue Phillips Munson Wonderly, of Swarthmore, passed away peacefully on September 20, 2026, surrounded by the love of her family. Born in Wilmington, DE on September 30, 1942, Lynda lived a life filled with love, laughter, adventure, faith, and, most of all, family.

Lynda was the daughter of the late Gertrude (Blackway) Phillips and Warren Phillips. She was one of four siblings and is survived by her sisters, Ann Bowen and Sarah Clark. She was preceded in death by her brother, Raymond Phillips.

Lynda attended Brandywine High School and was a hard worker from a very young age. She began working when she was just 16 years old and continued working throughout much of her life. Her strong work ethic, determination, and willingness to work hard were a reflection of the woman she was. She was honest, independent, dependable, and always willing to do what needed to be done.

Lynda was the beloved wife of Jay Wonderly, with whom she shared 18 wonderful years of marriage. She was preceded in death by her first husband, William Munson, and by her beloved sons, Edward Willliam Munson and James David Munson.

While Lynda experienced the heartbreak of losing those she loved, she continued to carry their memories in her heart and found so much joy in her life with Jay, her church, and the family that surrounded her.

Her grandchildren were among the greatest loves of her life. She cherished every moment with Sheila McNasby (Michael) and their children, Gavin and Dean; Shannon Harris (Jimmy) and their children, Zachary, Arianna, Melena, and Amelia; Alexis Bray (Chris) and their daughter, Ava; and Theresa Munson and her daughter, Layla.

Lynda’s great-grandchildren brought a special kind of happiness to her life. She loved spending time with them and frequently watched them, creating memories they will carry with them forever. One of the simplest things became one of the most special; the beloved cardboard box filled with toys that somehow provided endless entertainment and became a treasured part of their time with Mommom. To her great-grandchildren, that box was more than toys; it was a reminder of the love, comfort, and happiness they found in her home.

Lynda loved to travel and enjoyed every opportunity to make memories. She loved cruises, trips to the mountains, and visits to Florida. But if there was one thing Lynda loved more than anything, it was to dance. She could dance to just about anything, and if there was music playing, there was a good chance Lynda was dancing. Her joy was contagious, and her love of life could be felt by everyone around her.

Her faith was another important part of who Lynda was. Her loving church family at North Chester Baptist Church held a very special place in her heart. Their love, prayers, friendship, and support helped carry her through difficult times and brought light and joy into her life. She was deeply grateful for the love she found within her church family.

Lynda will be remembered for her enormous heart, her love of family, her adventurous spirit, her faith, and her ability to find joy in the simplest moments. She leaves behind a family who loved her deeply and who will miss her more than words can express.

Although her chair may be empty, her music may be quiet, and her dancing feet may have come to rest, the memories she created will live on. She will forever be loved, forever be missed, and forever be a part of the family she cherished so much.
