Kay Krause Pierce

Kay Krause Pierce, 79, passed away peacefully in her sleep on Sunday, August 30, 2026, in Warrington, PA. Born in Dixon, Illinois, to Charles A. McCarter and Carrie Ella McCarter, Kay was raised on a farm where her lifelong love of learning and teaching began. She earned her degree in English Education from Illinois State University and later a Master’s degree in Reading from Northern Illinois University

Kay’s teaching career took her to Arlington, Virginia, and the American International School in Germany before she settled in Pennsylvania, where she raised her children, Anthony and Jenny. She spent most of her career with the Tredyffrin/Easttown School District, teaching English and Reading to middle and high school students. An avid reader herself, Kay had a passion for books and for helping young people discover a love of reading and learning. Her commitment to others extended beyond the classroom through volunteering at Paoli Hospital, fundraising for the American Cancer Society, and working with programs supporting children with special needs.

In 2008, Kay married Tom Pierce, her husband of nearly 20 years. Together they enjoyed traveling the country in their camper, woodworking, and spending time with family. Kay also loved sewing, crafting, playing the piano, and traveling.

Kay is survived by her husband, Tom Pierce; her son Anthony and his wife Misti and their children Adam and Laurel; and her daughter Jenny and her husband Len and their sons Charlie and Oliver. Through her marriage to Tom, Kay’s family grew to include John and his wife Alison and their sons Paul, Andy and Ben; and Kathleen and her husband Sean and their son Jacob. She is also survived by her sister Edie and her husband John Randal, and their son Jason.

Kay’s funeral service will be held at Linwood United Methodist Church, 1627 Chichester Ave., Linwood, PA 19061, on Saturday, September 19th. Visitation will be held from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 am at the church, and services will follow. Interment will follow at Lawn Croft Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, and in honor of Kay’s lifelong love of children and education, the family asks that donations benefit the elementary-age students of Sonrise Christian Day School. School supplies will be collected at Kay’s service. Donations may be made online through the Linwood United Methodist Church website. Please select “SONRISE” when making your donation:
