Sid Casel was born in Vineland NJ to Joseph and Dorothy Casel. (Plotka)
Joseph had an egg delivery business and a farm that produced them, while Dorothy was a bookkeeper and homemaker. Sid was brought up in the Orthodox Jewish faith and as a boy was an eager student of the synagogue elders, participating in discussions about the Torah and prophets long after the others had left.
He was very athletic in his youth lettering in soccer and excelling in baseball. He was also a nationally ranked chess player in his teens and competed in tournaments.
He grew up in a suburb of Atlantic City and attended Manasutten Military School. His favorite war hero was General George Patton. He earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Accounting from Southern New Hampshire University and later earned his Master’s in Economics from Temple University.
He worked for Dun and Bradstreet and was their top sales producer for several years. Sid was a lifelong music lover and military history buff.
To those of us who knew him, his infectious laugh, ready wit, wealth of knowledge on a variety of subjects made him an excellent addition to any gathering. His persuasive abilities placed him at the top of his efforts. Most sales were achieved in such a way that the prospect had no idea why they hadn’t thought of the answers sooner. He will be missed by many and remembered by all who came in touch with him.
His memorial service will be held on Tuesday, October 11th at 6:30 pm at the Joseph A. Ward Funeral Home 1459 Market St. Linwood, PA. Friends and family are invited for a visitation from 5:30-6:30 at the funeral home. Burial is private.
