John P. Lafferty Jr., 74, a lifelong resident of Delaware County, passed away leaving behind a legacy of service, dedication, and compassion for his community.
John worked many years at Malz Brothers Hardware, where he was known for his strong work ethic and friendly nature. He later served as a crossing guard at Academy Park High School, a role he took great pride in as he helped ensure the safety of countless students each day.
His commitment to education and public service led him to serve on the Southeast Delco School Board, where he became a strong and respected advocate for the students of the district. John believed every child deserved the opportunity to receive a quality education and worked tirelessly to support the schools, teachers, and families of Southeast Delco. He earned the respect of his fellow board members and was admired for his dedication to doing what was best for the students.
Outside of his service to the community, John was a lifelong Philadelphia sports fan who faithfully cheered for his hometown teams through the years. He also had a lifelong love of athletics, participating in baseball and softball for many years and enjoying the friendships and camaraderie that came with the games he loved.
John is survived by his daughter, Kim; his sister, Donna; and his younger brothers, Dennis, Ed, Mike, and Walt. He also leaves behind many extended family members, friends, former colleagues, and members of the Southeast Delco community who will remember him for his kindness, integrity, sense of humor, and unwavering commitment to public service.
He will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered.
