William J. Clark, Sr., 86 years old passed away December 8, 2008 at Crozer Chester Medical Center Upland. Born and raised in Chester to the late John and Mary E. Friel Clark, Mr. Clark was a graduate of Chester High School and Kings Point Merchant Marine School on Long Island NY. He was in the Merchant Marines and was a Lt. JG in the US Navy during WWII.
He was employed by Holloway Corp in Philadelphia retiring after 43 years in 1988. A longtime resident of Chester, Mr. Clark was a resident of Pompano Beach FL and for the last 10 years has been a resident of Media.
He was a longtime member of St. Roberts Church now St. Katherine Drexel Church, where he volunteered a lot of his time in service to the church and his community. He was a 4th Degree Knights of Columbus, a member of the American Legion and a Philadelphia Eagles, Phillies and Notre Dame fan.
He was a loving and devoted husband, father, grandfather, and great grandfather. He was predeceased by his parents John and Mary Clark, his wife Mary Smith Clark, his second wife Lucille Gorbey Clark, his siblings Jack Clark, Paul Clark, Francis Clark, George Clark, and Isabel Hoffman, and his step children James Gorbey and Michael Gorbey.
He is survived by his children Ann Marie Clark, William J. (Patricia) Clark, Jr., Bernadette (Michael) Getz, John (Joyce Ann) Clark, Joseph Clark, and Jeffrey (Phyllis) Clark, step children Timothy (Ann) Gorbey, Christopher Gorbey, Donna (John) Carbone, 15 grandchildren, 15 step grandchildren, and 15 great grandchildren.
Family and friends are invited to his funeral Mass 10 Saturday in St. Katherine Drexel Church, 1902 Providence Ave Chester, calling at the church from 9am; burial SS Peter & Paul Cemetery.
