Theresa P. (Terry) Gray
Born November 2, 1945, died October 18, 2020 at VITAS Hospice Unit at Methodist Hospital in Philadelphia. A native of South Philadelphia’s St. Monica’s Parish, she and her family moved to Delaware County when she was 12. Theresa graduated from Notre Dame High School, Moylan, PA, in 1963.
Theresa was an office manager for Teamsters Union Local 312 in Chester, PA, and an administrative assistant at PNC Bank’s Creative Services and Real Estate divisions, where she retired. AT PNC, she helped plan the annual “Take Our Sons and Daughters to Work” days, and she coordinated United Way events.
She loved being creative. Theresa enjoyed cake decorating, crocheting, making homemade piñatas for family events, drawing, painting and writing. She was an avid storyteller, creating books for her grandchildren to celebrate the milestones of their lives. She also thoroughly enjoyed the annual Philadelphia Flower Show, chocolate, and creme brûlée. She enjoyed the arts and marveled at her grandchildren’s performances on stage and in chorus.
She had a lifetime love of the Mummers; her father was a member of the Hegeman String Band, and she passed this love to her children and grandchildren.
Her Catholic faith was an integral part of her life; she was a longtime parishioner of St. Madeline Parish in Ridley Park, PA, where she served as CCD Director for more than a decade. For her efforts, she was awarded the St. Pius X award from the Philadelphia Archdiocese. She also served as Eucharistic Minister and member of the Parish Council.
She was a devoted mother and grandmother; her grandchildren loved spending time with their “Mam.”
She is predeceased by her mother, Kathleen McLeod Eccles and her father, Edward C. Eccles. She is survived by her children Christopher Gray, Diane P. Gray-Quinn (Mark), and Robert Gray, and grandchildren Jessica Drass and Emily and Alison Quinn.
Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Friday, October 23 at St. Madeline Church, Tome St., Ridley Park, Pa. Visitation is 9:30 -10:30 a.m., and Mass immediately follows. Pandemic protocols will be followed. Masks and social distancing will be mandatory. Burial will be at Sts. Peter and Paul Cemetery, Springfield, PA.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations to VITAS Community Connections, P.O. Box 645352 Cincinnati, OH 45264-5352, or Mothers’ Home, 51 N. MacDade Blvd.
May Angels lead Terry into paradise. May she rest in peace and rise in glory.
Rest in God’s peace Theresa. ’64
I was a high school classmate of Theresa’s. I have many memories of our time in high school. My condolences to her family.
Rest in Peace dear soul from an ND classmate.
May you rest in peace, Terry. We shared so much in our 60 year friendship. Not just school, prom. senior week, sorority, work, kids, Church, CCD, grands with their plays and shows, but some of life’s toughest problems, too. You always knew the deepest meaning of friendship. We laughed in the good times and lifted each other thru the bad. I will sorely miss that sense of humor. The wonderful people your children and grandchildren turned out to be is a testament to you. You’ve made your mark in sooo many ways. I’ll miss you my wonderful friend.
Diane thinking of you & your family. Remember to take of each other during this difficult time. ❤️You Di. Love Robin Tascione
