Shirley M. Caratello (nee Burdett) 65 of Chestertown MD, formerly of Marcus Hook, passed away suddenly Feb. 13, 2008 in Chestertown MD. Born and raised in Chester to the late Edward and Bertha Morrison Burdett, Shirley was a graduate of Eddystone High School.

She was employed by Subway in Chestertown MD for 14 years where she was the store manager. She was a resident of Chestertown MD for the past 14 years previously residing in Marcus Hook.

Shirley loved and her grandchildren and was a loving and devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and great grandmother. She enjoyed boating and crabbing, cooking and arts and crafts. She was a former employee of the Kent County News.

She was predeceased by her parents Edward and Bertha Burdett, her son Edward Caratello and her sister Laura Burdett. She is survived by her husband of 45 years Louis Caratello, 2 sons Louis E. Caratello of Boothwyn and Daniel Caratello of Boothwyn 1 daughter Christine Byers of Marcus Hook, 3 sisters Joanne Curry of Arkansas, Beth Costa of Marcus Hook and Denise Kristman of Aston, 9 grandchildren, 6 great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and many friends.

Relatives and friends are invited to her funeral service Tuesday 11am in Joseph A. Ward Funeral Home, 1459 Market St., Linwood, calling at the funeral home, Monday 7-9pm and Tuesday 10-11am, burial Lawn Croft Cemetery.
