Sara C. Narvell, a longtime resident of Upper Chichester, PA, passed away on May 28, 2024, following a brief illness. She was an amazing 104 years old.
Born in Chester, PA, Sara lived at her home in Linwood, PA, until she was in her late nineties, and served as a Republican Committee woman in Upper Chichester for several years. A member of the Upper Chichester Senior Citizens Club for many years, Sara enjoyed taking bus trips with her friends and her daughter, Christine.
She enjoyed spending time at her summer home on the Chesapeake in Red Point, MD, relaxing in the yard of the cabin she and her husband, John, built in the early 1950s. When in Maryland, going out on the water in her son John’s boat was a treat she always looked forward to.
Sara loved to travel and to share stories of the people she met and her adventures that spanned from New England to Florida to Europe. She also enjoyed Caribbean cruises and trips to Mexico with her son, John, and his family. More recently, she and Christine would take long car rides and see where the day would take them, whether that be Lancaster or Havre de Grace. She kept up with the world through television, watching her favorite British comedies and crime shows on the BBC, as well as old Westerns. Sara was also an avid reader with an interest in English and Egyptian history.
What else can we share about Sara? She was quick to laugh, enjoyed a good old-fashioned practical joke, and liked going to Just Ice Cream in Aston, where she would encourage us all to get the sampler so she could try a variety of flavors. A seasoned thrift-store shopper, Sara had an eye for sartorial treasures, preferably with sequins, and always dressed impeccably for events and holidays.
Sara went by many names—Mom Mom, Gigi, and Cutie Pie—and loved spending time with the family who honored her with those terms of endearment: her grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and even a great-great grandchild.
During her long life, Sara wore many hats (but could mostly be seen wearing a visor). She was a homemaker, a friend, an excellent salesperson at Herman’s Sporting Goods, and a devoted wife and mother. She was always ready to share interesting facts that she had heard or read about and would never turn down the chance for a good tickle fight.
Sara was predeceased by her parents, William and Esther McCoy; husband, John Narvell; brothers, Herman, George, and Willie; sister, Thelma; and daughter-in-law, Carolyn Narvell.
She is survived by, and will live on in the hearts and memories of, her children, John Narvell of Havre de Grace, Maryland, and Christine Brown (William) of Upper Chichester; grandsons Jay Narvell (Kari), David Brown (Barbara), and Lorin Narvell (Eileen); great-grandsons John Narvell, Maxfield Brown, Aiden Narvell, and Wren Brown; great-granddaughters Mackenzie White (Jared) and Olivia Narvell; and great-great-granddaughter Ivy White.
Services will be private.
Enjoyed Sara at Seniors. She and I got stuck at the Center during a party for someone. The meeting had been moved to the Fury Rd Center so we went there. She was quite talkative on the way.She sure could get around and enjoyed everything. She was a great person. She will be missed.
So very sorry for you Christine and the family! Sounds like Sara had a long & happy life you were all blessed to have her in your life so long. Prayers for you all.
