Salvatore ” Sam” Mantegna, Jr., 81, of Linwood Pennsylvania, passed away peacefully at his longtime home on December 8th, 2025. Raised in Marcus Hook, Sam graduated from Eddystone High School and went on to serve proudly in the United States Navy from 1962 to 1966. After returning home, he began what became a lifelong career with Sun Oil, dedicating more than 40 years to a job he took great pride in. Even in retirement, Sam couldn’t sit still for long and went on to work as a safety inspector with AmQuip, bringing the same reliability and steady presence he was known for. Sam lived his life with an open heart and an easy smile. He made friends everywhere he went – on the water, in the woods, at work, and in every room he passed through. He loved fishing, hunting, dancing, and cooking for the people he cared about. Music was always a part of his day; his son Sam fondly remembers him singing along to country songs while driving his truck, windows down, completely lost in the moment. He enjoyed time on his boat, the freedom of riding his motorcycles, and the simple joy of being surrounded by those he loved. Sam was also a proud member of the American Legion.
He was predeceased by his father, Salvatore Mantegna, Sr.; his mother, Pauline Mingoia; seven siblings, Frank Mantegna, Mary DeLoach, Angelo Mantegna, and Lena Rubillo, along with three siblings who passed earlier in life.
Sam leaves behind the family he adored: his sisters, Josephine Krause and Gina Mantegna; his sons, Robert Mantegna, Samuel Mantegna and wife, Carolyn; his cherished grandchildren, Cody, Salvatore, Robert, Amber, Samantha, Macy, and Seth; eight great-grandchildren who brought him endless joy. To them, he was never just “Sam”, he was Dad, Pop-Pop, and the steady, loving presence at the center of the family.
Family and friends are invited to honor Sam’s life on Saturday, December 13th at the Joseph A. Ward Funeral Home in Linwood, Pennsylvania. A viewing will be held at 10am followed by a funeral service at 11am.
Sam’s warmth, laughter and generous spirit will remain with everyone who had the privilege of knowing him. He will be deeply missed and forever remembered.
