Rose M. Zappala, 81 years old passed away December 6, 2008 at home in Brookhaven. Born and raised in Chester to the late Samuel and Angeline Morace Zappala. Rose graduated from the former Notre Dame High School on Moylan in 1945, and was a graduate of Immaculata College and University of Penn where she earned her degree in physical therapy.
She helped start and was employed by Delaware Curative Workshop in Wilmington DE and retired as Assistant Director in 1989. Rose traveled all over the world for the Delaware Curative Workshop and enjoyed visiting many countries. She was awarded the Mary E. Switzer Award and The Meritorious Service Award from the Delaware Rehabilitation Association both in 1981.
Rose was a member of the former St. Anthony’s Church in Chester and one of the organizers for there annual luncheon for the friends of St. Anthony’s. A longtime member of Our Lady of Charity Church in Brookhaven, she volunteered her time being a lector, Eucharistic Minister, volunteered for Meals on Wheels, and was a member of the Altar Guild.
Rose enjoyed the casino’s, traveling, watching sports, playing pinochle with her friends and spending time with her family. Rose was a woman who was very devoted to her faith, her family and her home.
Rose was predeceased by her parents, Samuel and Angeline Zappala, and her siblings Joseph S. Zappala and Nancy Zappala. She is survived by her sister in law Fran Zappala, nephew Joey Zappala, nieces Shelly Zappala and Christa Zappala-Ferrara, all of whom looked after and cared for her, 1 aunt, 1 uncle, many cousins and friends.
Family and friends invited to her funeral Mass Wednesday 10:30am in Our Lady of Charity Church, 231 Upland Rd., Brookhaven, PA 19015 calling at the church from 9am; burial SS Peter & Paul Cemetery.
