Robert A. “Bob” Coen, 58 of Wilmington died Wednesday June 3, 2009 at St. Francis Hospital Wilmington. He was born in Chester, Pa. to Francis X. and Celestine Clanpcich Coen. He was raised in the Linwood section of Lower Chichester and attended Holy Saviour Elementary School and St. James Catholic High School before transferring to Brandywine High School where he graduated with the class of 1968.
Bob was a standout pitcher for the Brandywine Bulldogs for three years where he was being scouted by the Reds and Pirates. Instead he was drafted into the U. S. Army where he served with the 101st Airborne Administration Co. in Viet Nam for two terms from 1970 to 1971. He was employed by the Days Inn, formerly the Tally Ho Motel, for 22 years.
He is survived by one daughter Melissa Coen of Wilmington, one sister Lynda of Wilmington, two nephews Chris and Paul.
His funeral service will be 11am Tuesday at the Ward Funeral Home, 1459 Market St., Linwood where there will calling from 10 to 11 am. Burial will follow in Lawn Croft Cemetery, Linwood.
