Philip A. Conte, 86, of Upper Chichester passed away peacefully on Monday, August 30th. He was born and raised in Minturno, Italy. Philip immigrated to the United States in 1956 at the age of 21. He worked as a butcher for his entire career in the A&P Super Markets first in Connecticut and then Pennsylvania until his retirement. Phil loved to take walks, and was often seen walking around Linwood, Boothwyn and even well into Delaware at times. He was an avid gardener and enjoyed tending to the vegetables in the yard. He was also a member of the Men of Malvern Catholic Men’s group. Phil was a devoted husband and father and very close to his large extended family.
He was predeceased by his wife, Rosemary Conte (1992); and his 3 siblings. He is survived by his two children, Philip Conte (Michellene), and Ralph Conte (Lauren); grandchildren, Ethan, Philip, Amanda, Mara and Vincenzo.
His Funeral Mass will be held on Saturday, September 4th at 10:30am at Immaculate Conception Church, 21 W. 8th Street, Marcus Hook, PA. Friends and family are invited to his viewing from 9:30-10:30 at the church. Burial will follow at the Immaculate Heart of Mary Cemetery, Linwood, PA.
To Phil and Ralph. My grandmother and your mom’s dad were brother and sister. I remember when your parents were married. Their wedding was so much fun. All of ‘kids’ were running around like a bunch of wild banshees. Dancing and playing. Your mom was such a sweet soul and your dad was very kind and gentle. I remember when you were born. You were both such cute little guys. How fast time flies. It is so nice to see this picture of your dad. He looks exactly how I remember him. It’s very hard to lose our parents.
