Lucy Murray (Giandonato) of Aston, Pennsylvania, passed away peacefully at home on November 13, 2025. She was 93 years old.
Born in Chester, Pennsylvania, on June 30, 1932, she was the youngest child of Silvio and Serafina Giandonato. Lucy grew up in Chester, working from a young age at the Great Leopard Skating Rink, and later at the A&P Market, where in 1954 she met the love of her life, Thomas E. Murray, Jr. They were married on June 19, 1955, at Saint Anthony’s Catholic Church in Chester.
After marrying, Lucy and Tommy made their first home at 1134 Clover Lane in Chester, where they began their family and enjoyed their early years together. In 1961, they moved to Aston, where they raised their 7 children on Surrey Lane. The Murray home quickly became the heart of countless gatherings – pool parties, cookouts, birthdays, and holidays – always surrounded by extended family and cousins from the Ferriola, Raczkowski, Giandonato, McGroerty, and Murray families.
Lucy spent many years as a devoted homemaker before she and Tommy purchased a small business, a driving range on the Conchester Highway, which they ran together as a family until his passing in 1981.
In 1989, with all her children grown, Lucy moved to Wilmington, Delaware, where she lived for the next 26 years. During this time, she delighted in her favorite pastimes – bowling, bingo, cross-stitch, and reading Harlequin Romance novels. She cherished her family trips to Ocean City, NJ, and always looked forward to her annual week at the shore. Lucy also loved growing tomatoes, making pizzelles for family and friends, and playing the lotto, poker, Uno, and Racko. These simple pleasures brought joy to her everyday life.
In 2017, Lucy moved back to Aston, where she lived her remaining years surrounded by the love and care of her family.
A devoted mother and grandmother, Lucy found her greatest joy in spending time with her family. She expressed her love in countless ways – especially through the thoughtful and perfectly chosen gifts she gave to those she cared about. And while she will be deeply missed by all who loved her, comfort can be found in knowing that after 44 years apart, she is reunited with her beloved husband, Tommy.
Lucy is survived by her seven children: Diane Franke, Kathy Walls (Chris), Thomas E. Murray III, Lynda Williams (Tammy), Nancy Murray (Carol), Phyllis Clark (Jeff), and Allison Montgomery (Sean); nine grandchildren: Megan Tremain (Will), Sami Walstrum (Phil), Wendy Panzer (Joe), Tom Walls (Amanda), Ben Walls, Jeff Clark (Ashley), Josh Clark, Jake Clark, and Sean Thomas Montgomery; nine great-grandchildren: Audrey, Emilia, Nolan, Paxton, Skylar, Joey, Ramona, Jack, and Luke. Additionally, she is survived by two grandchildren through marriage, Jacki Woods (Larry) and David Rakes (Sera), and their 12 children. She is also survived by her loving sister, Philamena Ferriola, and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Thomas E. Murray, Jr.; her parents, Silvio and Serafina Giandonato; her siblings, Alfred Giandonato, Philip Giandonato, Mary Raczkowski, and Amelia Ferriola; and her sons-in-law, Barry Franke and Albert Zalewski.
The family invites relatives and friends to a visitation beginning at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, December 6, 2025, at the Church of the Holy Child, 2500 Naamans Rd. Wilmington, De 19810. Her Funeral Mass will follow at 11:00 am.
