Jeanne (Jeannie) Louise Pohanish was born October 9, 1949, in Kingston, Pennsylvania, the younger of two children of Ruth (Walton) and Charles Pohanish of Mountain Top, Pennsylvania. She passed away March 13, 2024, at Crozer-Chester Medical Center in Upland, Pennsylvania.
Jeanne graduated from Crestwood High School in 1967 and West Chester University, obtaining a Bachelor of Science in Social Work. She retired as a senior social worker with the state of Pennsylvania after 30 years. In her retirement, Jeanne worked for the tax department at Brinker Simpson accounting firm. Jeanne served in the United States Air Force Reserves and was an officer of the American Legion Post 951.
Jeanne was a free and independent spirit who loved meeting people and experiencing new cultures and foods. Her love of travel led to adventures inside and outside the United States. She often recalled fun memories of past excursions or shared details of an upcoming trip. Jeanne went out of her way to bring unique and memorable adventures to her nieces, whether it be at a pop-up rodeo or an exotic restaurant.
Her sense of humor always lightened up the atmosphere. She had a great love of the outdoors and her dogs. Dudley, her white lab, held a very special place in her heart and was undoubtedly the ultimate good boy. You could find Jeanne at the nearest stream the first day of trout season.
Jeanne is predeceased by her parents and numerous aunts, uncles, and cousins. She is survived by her sister Sharon (Pohanish) Jarrow and brother-in-law Robert Jarrow of Nazareth, Pennsylvania; niece Kristen Fisher, her husband John Fisher, and their daughters Katarina and Serena Fisher of Chambersburg, Pennsylvania; niece Mindy Jarrow of Foxborough, Massachusetts; and dear friend Debbie Cluley of Boothwyn, Pennsylvania.
A celebration of Jeanne’s life will be held Friday, March 22, 2024, at Joseph A. Ward Funeral Home, 1459 Market Street, Linwood, Pennsylvania 19061, with visitation from 11:00 a.m. -12:00 p.m., followed by a memorial service at 12 p.m.
You knew Jeannie was in the room when you heard that hearty laugh. It always made me smile 😊
Will truly miss this kind and sweet Jeanne!
Jeannie never met a stranger! Her robust personality was memorable. I will always remember her laughter filling any room or place she happened to be. To know her was to love her.
