Henry C. Alphin Sr., affectionately known as “Charlie Brown”, 84, of Linwood, PA passed away peacefully on Sunday, January 12 at Riddle Memorial Hospital. Charlie was born on June 12, 1940 in Wilmington, DE. He was raised in Aston, PA and attended high school in Brookhaven, PA. Charlie was an entrepreneurial spirit who lived life on his terms through the very end. He loved Golden Oldies music, knowing everything about popular and rare doo wop music from the 1950s and early 1960s, and was a DJ and radio industry associate in his spare time.

Charlie began his career at Sunroc Corporation but spent most of his life as a small business owner. Always the entertainer, he made people laugh wherever he went. Charlie was a well-known fixture in Marcus Hook, PA in the 1980s and 1990s, where he was owner of Jeannie’s Variety Store on East 10th St. He was dedicated to opening the store and serving the community seven days a week – even  in inclement weather, providing conversation and affordable household goods before bigger chain stores were easily accessible.

Charlie was predeceased by his grandmother, Savilla Brahm Brown and sister, Donna Mae Kramer. He is survived by his loving wife of 56 years, Jean Alphin (nee Dachiu), at home and son, Henry C. Alphin Jr. (Kristin), in Loudoun County, VA.

Services will be private. In remembrance of Charlie Brown’s life, the family requests that any charitable donations be made to Forgotten Cats, Inc. at Suite 422, 4023 Kennett Pike, Greenville, DE 19807.
