Emil “Scully” Szkolnicki, 90 of Brookhaven formerly of Chester died February 19, 2010 at Riddle Memorial Hospital, Media. Born to Matthew and Sophia Maksymowics Szkolnicki in Chester, where he was reared and educated.
A self employed professional violinist, he trained originally at the Academy of Music in Philadelphia. After that he earned a chair with the Wilmington Symphony Orchestra and the Swarthmore Orchestra. At the same time he gave private tutoring for aspiring Violinists. Toward the end of his career he shared his musical talents with the patrons of the Mendenhall Inn and the Crier in the Country restaurants. A career-long member of the Musician’s Union in Chester.
A longtime member of the former St. Hedwig’s Catholic Church in Chester, he was also a veteran of the U.S. Army during WWII in the Pacific theatre of operations where he was the recipient of the Good Conduct Medal, Meritorious Unit Award, Philippines Liberation Ribbon, American Campaign Medal, the Asiatic Pacific Campaign Medal with 3 Bronze Stars and the WWII Victory Ribbon. He also served as the Chauffeur for the Co. Chaplain for a time during his service.
In addition to his parents he was also predeceased by two brothers John Scully and Walter Szkolnicki. Survived by two sisters, Caroline Bartucci of N. Wilmington and Bertha Kruzich of Lansdale. Many nieces and nephews and cousins.
His funeral service will be celebrated 11am Saturday at the Ward Funeral Home, 1459 Market St., Linwood where there will be calling from 10 to 11. Burial will follow in Immaculate Heart of Mary Cemetery Upper Chichester.
