Elva M. Ward (nee Thomas), age 97, passed away April 1, 2008 at Naamans Creek Country Manor. Born and raised in Chester to the late Charles D. and Alice Mabel Bernard Thomas, she was the youngest of 4 children.
She was a resident of Brookhaven for over 55 years residing on Roberts Rd until she moved into Naamans Creek Country Manor a few years ago. Mrs. Ward was a loving and devoted wife mother and grandmother and was known for her dinners. She was a wonderful cook and enjoyed cooking at her church for church dinners, weddings, and funeral luncheons.
She was employed as a bookkeeper by Sun Rock in Glen Riddle and Viscose in Marcus Hook. She was a longtime member of South Chester Methodist Church, which latter became Christ United Methodist Church in Brookhaven and was very active in her church, involved with several church organizations, and the choir, the Red Cross and Girl Scouts of America, Brookhaven Troop #532. She was a big fan of the Philadelphia Sports teams, especially the Phillies and Eagles.
Mrs. Ward is survived by her daughter Dorothy L. Stelma, 3 grandchildren and 2 great grandchildren.
Relatives and friends are invited to her funeral service Friday 1pm, Christ United Methodist Church, 600 Dutton Mill Rd, Brookhaven. Calling at the church from 12 noon, burial Lawn Croft Cemetery.
