Edward J. Ashby, 91, of Marcus Hook died Thursday, February 10th, 2011 at Crozer Chester Medical Center. He was born to James and Mary Ashby in Chester, where he was reared and educated. He graduated from Chester High School with the class of 1938. Mr. Ashby worked as an electrician for the Baldwin Lima Hamilton locomotive company, Sunship, and the Chester Upland School District. He was a veteran of the US Army having served in Italy during World War II.

He served as a leader for the boy scout troop at Resurrection Church in Chester for many years. He was also a member of the VFW post in Chester and Boothwyn. Mr. Ashby was also a 4th degree Knight with the Knights of Columbus. He enjoyed collecting stamps and coins. What he enjoyed most, however, was time spent with his children and grandchildren, whom he helped to raise.

He is predeceased by his Wife Alice Sparklin Ashby who died in 2001; His son, Edward Ashby Jr. who died in 2007; Grandson, Michael Ashby; 2 Brothers, Joseph Ashby and John Ashby; 3 Sisters, Regina Ashby, Elaine McKniff, Jane Kisch.

He is survived by 3 Sons, John Ashby of Newark, DE, Ronald Ashby (Sandra) of Wallingford, PA, Michael Ashby of Claymont, DE.; 1 Daughter-in-Law, MaryAnn Istak Ashby of Virginia; 1 Sister, Mary Palmer of New Castle, DE; 9 Grandchildren and 4 Great-grandchildren.

Friends and Family may call after 7pm on Tuesday evening, Feb. 15th, where there will be a prayer service at 8:15 at the Joseph A. Ward Funeral Home, 1459 Market St., Linwood, PA. His Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Wednesday at 10:00 am at Holy Saviour Church in Linwood. Friends and Family may also call on Wednesday morning from 9:30-10:00am at the church. Inurnment will follow at Lawn Croft Cemetery in Linwood.
