Edith Wooten Short stepped into Glory on Sunday, August 23, 2009. Edith was born in Wilkes-Barre, PA on December 2, 1918.
In her younger years she was a youth leader and active member of Union Gospel Missionary Church in Marcus Hook, PA. During World War II she supported her country as an overhead crane operator and by manufacturing machinery parts as part of the war effort. Edith loved to spend time with her children, make crafts with her grandchildren and spent summers vacationing at Kitts Hummock on the Delaware Bay. Later in life Edith enjoyed many pleasant hours at the Union Hospital Adult Day Care Center and then at Calvert Manor where she resided for the past 18 months. She loved to make people laugh, play games and spend time with her family.
Edith Short was preceded in death by her three brothers: Ellsworth, Kenneth and Jesse Wooten; and by her husband of 52 years: Thurman Harvey Short, Sr. She is survived by her three children: Charlotte Taylor and husband David, Renee Riley and husband William, and Thurman Harvey Short, II. “Nana” as she was known, also leaves behind 11 grandchildren, 28 great grandchildren and 2 great-great grandchildren.
Her family is rejoicing in the knowledge that they will one day be reunited with her in Heaven. A viewing will be held Tuesday, August 25 from 7-9 PM at Union Gospel Missionary Church in Marcus Hook, PA. Funeral services will be held the following day at 11 AM at the same location.
