Donald Linwood Ward, 83 of the Linwood section of Lower Chichester, died Tuesday February 2, 2010 at the home of his son in Nottingham, PA. Born to George and Frances Gesner Ward in Linwood, where he was reared and educated. He attended Eddystone High School and Goldey-Beacom College in Wilmington, DE.
He worked as a Project Administrator for the Sun Oil Co. in Marcus Hook for 31 years before retiring in 1983. A Veteran of the U. S. Navy during WWII where he served on the U.S.S Haynesworth in the Pacific Theatre of Operations receiving the Pacific Theatre Ribbon (Three Stars), American Theatre Ribbon, Victory Medal and the Philippine Liberation Ribbon. A member of the V.F.W. Post #6835 in Glen Mills and the American Legion Post #951 in Ogden. A former member of the Chichester School Authority which was instrumental in constructing the School Gymnasium and Natorium.
A member of the Aniline Village Civic Association for many years and in the 1990’s the Association dedicated the Brady-Ward Park in Aniline Village in his honor. A former member of the Mercury Gun Club in Aston, and also an avid hunter and fisherman.
Husband of the late Blanche J. McClellan Ward, who died in 2000. Survived by Two sons, Marc F. Ward of Nottingham, PA. and Eric S. Ward of Landenberg, PA. Three daughters Cheryl J. Ganster of St. Petersburg, FL, Mary K. Foderaro of Salisbury, MD and Michele L. Hagel of Linwood. Sixteen grandchildren, Eleven great-grandchildren and One great-great-grandson.
His Memorial Service will be held 1:30pm Friday at the Ward Funeral Home, 1459 Market St., Linwood where there will be calling from 12:30 to 1:30. Inurnment will follow in Lawn Croft Cemetery, Linwood.
