Barbara Marian Barnett, age 63, of Alvin, Texas passed away Sunday, January 20, 2008 in her home after battling cancer for close to 25 years. She was born in Chester, Pennsylvania on May 30, 1944 and was a resident of the area for 35 years. In 1979 she moved to Texas and lived in Alvin for 21 years and then Porter, Texas, returning to live in Alvin in late 2006.

Barbara was a homemaker when she first arrived in Texas, but became a medical lab technician upon graduating from Alvin Community College in 1992. She worked at the Alvin hospital, Mainland hospital, and various other medical offices and agencies in the greater Houston area.

Barbara was a beloved, grandmother, mother, wife, and friend. She was preceded in death by her 1st husband, Fredrick M. Stromberg; mother, Helen Pyle; father, Joseph Armstrong, and son, David Stromberg. Barbara is survived by her husband, Charles A. Barnett; her sons, Fredrick Stromberg and his wife Cindy of Honduras, Joseph Stromberg and his wife Carrie of Alvin; step-children, David Barnett of Dickinson, TX, Mark Barnett of ­­Dallas, Susan Cline of Indianapolis, Indiana; grandchildren, Isaiah and Anna Stromberg; sister, Mary Armstrong of York, Pennsylvania; brothers, Joseph Armstrong and wife Robin of Centennial, Colorado, Allen Armstrong and wife Mary of Kennett Square, Pennsylvania, Reuben Armstrong and wife Marley of Oxford, PA, Sam Armstrong and wife Jacey of Lincoln University, PA; two step-grandchildren, and other relatives and friends.

Barbara was a strong, loving, and creative woman with an abiding faith in God. She loved to sing, dance, paint, and sew, and her crafts and art will continue to enrich our lives long after her death.

Visitation will be held from 6 to 8 pm on Tuesday, January 22, 2008 at Scott Funeral Home in Alvin, Texas. Funeral services will be held at the Memorial Presbyterian Church, 3217 Chichester Avenue, Boothwyn, PA, on Friday, January 25, 2008 at 1:30 pm with burial at Lawn Croft Cemetery in Linwood, PA.

Her son Fredrick Stromberg and Reverend Alfred Hayden will officiate. Donations can be made to Hospice Care Team or the American Cancer Society, Alvin Relay for Life. Barbara participated in this event in 2008 and her children, and many friends will be participating in the Relay in her memory on June 13-14, 2008.
