Alfred T. Conte, 90

Alfred T. Conte, 90 years old, passed away Friday September 5, 2008 at Crozer Chester Medical Center Upland. Born and raised in Marcus Hook to the late Emilio and Libera DiCrosta Conte, Mr. Conte had been a resident of Boothwyn section of Upper Chichester for most of his life.

He was employed with his father in the Barrel Repair Business in Trainer in 1939 until he was drafted in 1941 into the US Army Air Corp. In the US Army Air Corp he attained the rank of Master Sergeant Crew Chief, and served in England. He was awarded 4 Bronze Battle Stars, Bronze Star Medal, European Defense Medal, African European Campaign Award and the American Defense Ribbon and was honorably discharged in 1945.

After the war he went into business with his brother and they owned and operated Chichester Cleaners and he worked with his brother from 1945 to 1951 when he where he worked at Boeing Vertol 1951 to 1956, then back to the cleaners 1958 to 1970. He then worked at FMC in Marcus Hook 1970 to 1976, then he went to work at Widener University 1976 to 1982 from which he retired.

He was an avid bowler and gardener and a lifetime member of Boothwyn Fire Co. He was also a longtime member of Immaculate Conception of Lourdes Church in Marcus Hook and a member of the Delaware County Fire Police.
Mr. Conte was a loving and devoted husband, father, brother and grandfather.

He was predeceased by his parents and siblings Ralph, Joe, Mike, Albert, Vince, Butch, and Fanny. He is survived by his wife of 59 years Sophie M. Conte nee Poleck, and his children Vanessa Fineberg of Abbington PA, Rita Delengowski of West Deptford NJ and Larry Conte of Boothwyn (Upper Chi), siblings Anthony Conte, Lawrence Conte, Angie Tyman, and Anna DiAngelis, 9 grandchildren, nieces and nephews.

Family and friends invited to his funeral Mass Tuesday 10am, Immaculate Conception of Lourdes Church. Viewing Monday evening 7-9 and Tuesday morning 8:30-9:30, Joseph A. Ward Funeral Home. Inc., 1459 Market St. Linwood, burial Lawn Croft Cemetery.
