Wilda Glea Turner died on May 10, 2009 at her sister’s home in Philadelphia unexpectedly after a short illness. She was 46. She was born in 1963 in Tuscaloosa, Alabama, was raised in Philadelphia, and was a resident of Los Angeles since 1996.
Ms. Turner was Local Government Analyst for the Local Agency Formation Commission for Los Angeles County where she worked for the last 13 years. During her career there, she analyzed boundary changes for special districts, researched government agency performance for special studies, designed web pages and oversaw the agency’s computer network. She was awarded as the Outstanding Clerk of the Year by the state organization CALAFCO. Before moving to Los Angeles, she worked for the Federal Reserve Bank of Philadelphia for many years.
Her entrepreneurial pursuits included writing, website design, catering, and dance classes. She attended college at Temple University. She was an avid student, having started college at the age of 15. She was a career reader as well, and could almost always be found with a novel of some kind in tow. Her love for reading contributed to her amazing vocabulary and “Wikipedia-like” knowledge.
She had a brilliant sense of humor and style and was known by all for her wit, charm, warmth and creativity. A creative woman, she enjoyed writing mystery plays and novels, was an amateur actress, gourmet cook, home decorator and had an intuitive knack for color and design. She was passionate, vivacious, confident, and had a zest for life. She enjoyed karaoke, dancing, shopping and sailing with her friends. A stylish woman, Wilda enjoyed being impeccably dressed. She was a connoisseur of dirty martinis.
Ms. Turner is survived by her mother Mildred Turner of Boothwyn, her sister Eula Jean Davis of Lansdowne, brothers William Stacey Turner and Anthony Perry of Columbus, Ohio, and her longtime partner Warren Conner. She is further survived by her nephews John and Anthony Perry, nieces Deshawn Dears and Antoinette Perry; and a great niece, Celeste and other relatives and many friends around the U.S. She was preceded in death by her father, Lovell Turner.
Her funeral service will be held at Joseph A. Ward Funeral Home, 1459 Market St., Linwood, Pennsylvania on Saturday, May 16, 2009 at 11:00 a.m. Memorial donations may be sent to the attention of Wilda’s mother Mildred Turner care of the funeral home. Click here to view online guest book.
