Miriam C. Chew, 100 years old, passed away Wednesday, February 4, 2009, just short of her 101 birthday, at The Sunrise Assisted Living facility in Katy, TX. Born and raised in Marcus Hook to the late Sarah M. Jones and her stepfather, Clarence Jones, Mrs. Chew had been a resident of Linwood section of Lower Chichester for most of her life until moving to Katy, TX.
She was a graduate of Crozer Hospital Nursing School and was employed as a Registered Nurse and later became a housewife and mother to her three children. Mrs. Chew was a long time, supportive and active member of Linwood Heights United Methodist Church, The Order of the Eastern Star, and was involved with the Linwood Republican Party for many years.
Mrs. Chew was a loving and devoted wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and loyal friend. She is survived by 3 children Cecilia Elizabeth “Betty” Chew, Gustave Eugene “Gene” Chew, Clarence “Gus” Chew, 13 grandchildren, and 12 great grandchildren.
Family and friends are invited to her funeral service on Wednesday, 1:00 pm at the Linwood Heights United Methodist Church, 1627 Chichester Avenue, Linwood. Calling at the church is from noon with burial to follow at Lawn Croft Cemetary.
