Mary Ellen Cannon (Whitby)

1926-2015

Mary Ellen Cannon (Whitby), of Upper Chichester, passed away peacefully surrounded by her family at her home on April 7, 2015. She worked in the Tea Room at Delaware Hospital in her early years and also at Radio Park performing as a mermaid. Mary enjoyed watching the kids at the playground by her house, bird watching, doing crossword puzzles & trips to the casinos: Delaware Park & Harrah’s.

She was the daughter of the late Sara & Thomas Whitby Sr. Also preceded in her death were her sister’s, Sara (Polly) Holden & Irene Whitby, her brother Thomas Whitby Jr and her grandson Scott Brooks.

She is survived by her 4 children, Sandy, Donna, Mary Alice & Kelly, 5 grandchildren, Jim, Stephanie, Stacie, Jenni, & Jimmy, 9 great grandkids & 2 great great grandchildren, her sister Dolores Hobson as well as many relatives & friends. Mary was one of a kind & always told it like it was. She will forever live in our hearts and to hear her say, “oh, ain’t that something?” will never be forgotten. Rest in peace Gammy. Memorial will be private.
