John F. Benckert, 86 of the Ogden Park section of Upper Chichester died Friday September 25, 2009 at home. Mr. Benckert was born to William and Elsie Liney Benckert in Philadelphia, where he was reared and educated before moving to the West End of Chester, which is where he spent most of his life. He has been in Ogden for the last 6 years.

He was a printer for the Curtis Publishing Co. of Sharon Hill for 25 years and after that he was a custodian for Chester-Upland School district for 18 years before retiring in 1988. A veteran of the U.S. Army Military Police during WWII serving stateside.

He was the husband of the late Ethel Berry Benckert who died in 2003. Survived by two daughters Elsie Palermi with whom he made his home in Ogden Park and Margaret “Peggy” Giannini of Aston. Seven grandchildren, several great-grandchildren and Three great-great-grandchildren.

His funeral service and burial will be private.
