Clare M. Evans, nee Mortimer, Age 87

Clare M. Evans (nee Mortimer), 87 years old, passed away Sunday July 6, 2008 at Sterling Nursing and Rehabilitation in Media. Born in Chester to the late Michael and Anna M. O'Donnell Mortimer, Mrs. Evans was a lifelong resident of Marcus Hook.

She was a graduate of Holy Savior Catholic School and the Immaculate Heart Business School of Chester. She was a longtime member of Holy Savior Catholic Church and was one of the founding members of the Holy Savior Womens Club. She was the last surviving member of the Ladies of the Nile, she was a former office assistant for Dr. Thomas Baker in Marcus Hook and was also formerly employed as a sales clerk for the former Speares Brothers Store in Chester.

She liked to crochet, and did china painting and loved music especially Lawrence Welk, she also enjoyed cooking and baking. She was a loving and devoted wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, and sister. She was a good friend, good sister, and a hell of a wife, people were her thing.

Mrs. Evans was predeceased by her parents Michael J. and Anna M. Mortimer, her husband Thomas J. Evans, Jr., and her son Thomas J. Evans, III, and her siblings Michael J. Mortimer, Catherine Vaccarro, Joseph Mortimer, James Mortimer, Margaret Chieffo and Thomas Mortimer.

She is survived by her children Michael J. (Nancy) Evans, Patricia A. (Charles) Lutz, Mary Catherine (Terence) Edge, Clare M. Gormley, Edward D. Evans, David W. (Susan) Evans, and John (Joanie Cox) Evans, sister of John (Mary) Mortimer and Anne Esslinger, mother in law of Betty Evans, 15 grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren, several cousins, nieces and nephews.
